En concreto, Sinclair (2004) advierte que el corpus permite observar ‘recurrent patterns of language’, que son las verdaderas unidades de significado, y no las palabras por sí solas: “By giving greater weight to the syntagmatic constraints, units of meaning can be identified that reduce the amount of meaning available to the user” (^[44]Sinclair, 2004: 140); es decir, los patrones sintagmáticos restringen el significado de la unidad léxica .
