Con el objetivo de examinar si las elecciones lingüísticas apuntan a alguna identidad particular, la autora recurre a un diseño experimental cuya muestra corresponde a doce estudiantes universitarias mujeres entre 19 y 20 años. Un tercio de la muestra estaba compuesta por hablantes cuya L1 era el catalán, el segundo tercio por hablantes cuya L1 era el español y el otro tercio por hablantes provenientes de familias bilingües (español-catalán). La tarea que desarrollan consiste en narrar una historia en tres versiones: en catalán, en español y en inglés. Entre los variados resultados del estudio, se indica que las diversas versiones de la narración no reflejan una identidad específica, sin embargo, la autora destaca que independientemente de su L1, la muestra de universitarias comparte el uso de la variedad catalana del español.
