Studies have shown that marked structures (e.g. complex consonant clusters) in a target language are more difficult to acquire than unmarked structures and this condition often interacts with transfer (See Jarvis & Pavlenko, 2008)

Our data comes from historical journals of the Institute of Ceará: thirteen from the period of 1944 to 1956 and thirteen from 2000 to 2012. In accordance with functionalist assumptions (modality, markedness and unidirectional change), we show data decrease from one synchrony to another besides contextual narrowing: it survives as a stylistic variant, mainly in counterfact conditionals (protasis-apodosis order ) and comparative-conditionals (apodosis-protasis order), affirmative clauses, taking into connective and stative verb (fora), without time reference, in papers and in the first synchrony (1944-1956).

paper VE_Núcleotxt79 - : In this article we present a revision of the role of the pragmatic constituent in teaching second languages. This revision is the starting point to set up a didactic proposal which aims at applying pragmalinguistic criteria when teaching three features with a high degree of markedness in Spanish: ser and estar, the past of the indicative mode, and the modal discrimination between the subjunctive and the indicative . These features also present double selection and do not exhibit a clear relationship between meaning and form, which makes them difficult structures to acquire by non native speakers.
