paper corpusSignosTxtLongLines328 - : Abstract: The direct object with human reference is marked with the preposition a. However, when the direct object is located in initial position it usually tends to lose the case mark, even though the referent is human and individual, as it is illustrated in the following example: ella la recomendó un cuñado mío . The aim of this article is to determine the syntactic factors involved in the absence of case marking. The methodology of this work is based on the data from four corpora of the Spanish spoken in Mexico. The results of the investigation show that direct objects with human reference without the presence of case mark have certain subject sentence features given their proximity to the topicality and individuation hierarchies.

paper corpusSignosTxtLongLines426 - : According to Yang (2011: 129), “a text, whether in its written or oral realization, is closely related to the concepts of space and time”, and “every utterance token is spatio-temporary unique, being spoken or written at a particular place and at a particular time. Thus, the second set of analyses deals with the spatial (or local) and time adverbial deictic references based on two-level ‘distance’ range with the speaker as a referent point, or ‘the centre of conceptualization’ (Yang, 2011): distal vs . proximal, where proximal pole is considered to be more close to the speaker and the distal one – closer to the addressee (Stawarska, 2008; Cornish, 2011):

paper corpusSignosTxtLongLines488 - : These studies have shown the various issues that arise when specifying a gender for foreign borrowings. These loanwords can differ from language to language and “have important implications for attempts to determine the structure of the lexicon” (^[70]Corbett, 1991: 8). ^[71]Poplack et al. (1982) identified the following major determinants of gender attribution in Spanish and French, which we will now exemplify using Anglicisms included in the 23^rd edition of the ^[72]DLE (2014). The factor that they found most predictive of gender is the physiological sex of the animate referent: for instance, internauta, a word derived from English ‘internaut’ ‘Internet user,’ can be el internauta or la internauta depending on whether the Internet user is male or female . Another parameter includes the phonological shape of the word, as when certain terminal phonemes of the original language are linked to a specific gender in the host language, e.g., ‘jogging’ < el jogging (loanwords ending in -ing tend

paper corpusSignosTxtLongLines557 - : “Boulanger hypothesizes that in the case of competition, only the new word itself (i.e., the word form) must be accepted by speakers. In the no-competition case, both the new word and new referent must be accepted” (^[78]Cook, 2010: 35 ) .
