paper CO_Íkalatxt174 - : This article describes partial results found within doctoral research entitled: Social practices and representations in university academic writing. The overall objective of the work aimed to identify and analyze social representations manifested by teachers and students about academic writing and its relation to student writing practices. One of the specific objectives, which is accounted for in this article, was to describe and analyze writing activities and assignments performed by students in university classrooms. The theoretical framework is based, first, on the theory of social representations (Moscovici, 1984; Jodelet, 1984, 2008, and Abric, 2001), and second, in the theoretical and didactic principles of academic writing, that is, Chevallard's systemic triadic: teacherstudent– content (2005 ), and for some aspects of the teaching action (Brousseau, 1998; Rickemnann, 2009; Camps, 2001; Castelló, 2011, and Lerner, 2001), among others. The methodology follows a hermeneutically–based

paper CO_Íkalatxt164 - : Learning history involves learning to look to the past in a particular way. In classroom discourse, teachers interact with students bringing them into thinking, representing and communicating social world from three dimensions: time–space, causality and evidentiality (Oteíza, 2009). The multimodal perspective on communication considers the semiotic potential of the various resources that are intertwined in discourse to create meaning in context. This research (Fondecyt 1130684) is carried out from the multimodal approach, systemic functional linguistics and appraisal theory, to explore the semiotic options of three case studies: three teachers of history in the 1st year of Secondary School . The corpus consists of the audiovisual record of three introductory lessons within the same curriculum unit: World War ii. After a multimodal discourse analysis, findings indicate that each teacher chose different combinations of semiotic media and modes to teach the same content. Concerning disciplinary

paper corpusSignostxt295 - : According to Lock (1996), in terms of language education, the systemic functional perspective does not focus on the distinction between grammatical and ungrammatical linguistic forms, but rather on the appropriateness of each lexico-gramatical choice for a particular communicative purpose in a particular social context. As the author points out, "the primary concern [of systemic functional linguistics] is with the functions of structures and their constituents and with their meanings in context" (Lock, 1996: 1 ).

10
paper corpusSignostxt295 - : Learning a second or foreign language involves a considerable amount of time and dedication, and the learners expect, as a payoff from their efforts, to develop the ability to communicate effectively with other speakers or writers of the new language. To do so, learners need a grammatical description of the language that goes beyond listing forms and structures and includes a description of the available linguistic resources and of how they are used in social interactions. Systemic functional linguistics is particularly adequate for such a task since it conceives:

11
paper corpusSignostxt309 - : With the demise of formalism in linguistics, education of mother tongue and foreign language needs revising. Formal trends fall short of the two major challenges in education today: making students fit to operate in a multilingual world and making them proficient for using language -both L1 and L2- in society, that is, having a full grasp of academic and professional genres. This article makes an actual proposal of curriculum innovation that takes genres -with a nod to the systemic functional theory behind it- as the ultimate unit in language programming and that is being embraced in some parts of Europe under the label: 'integrated language curriculum' . A historical review, a cognitive account based on language information processing, and some structure for classroom implementation are also considered.
