Transference often occurs in the course of learning a second language and can be defined as "the adoption of any elements or features from the other language" (Romaine 1995:69 ). Lindholm and Padilla (1977) maintain that bilingual children employ one manner of language transference when they lack the lexical entry in the appropriate language.
