This mainly occurs because both languages have different linguistic structures. Evans envisions that these challenges can be overcome by accomplishing two main goals for the English phrasal verb construction enigma: 1) to elucidate the typological differences between Spanish and English verb construction in phrasal verbs, and 2) to provide strategies for phrasal verb instruction that can be used in the EFL classroom. Evans argues that many educators are unfamiliar with the linguistic typology paradigm and, therefore, often disregard any direct instruction in the syntactic construction of phrasal verbs. He suggests that direct instruction of linguistic typology can be helpful for English learners whose L1 typology differs

This claim is based on the fact that more than 80% of the activities do not develop intercultural awareness and among those which do, the majority regard only intercultural knowledge, that is to say, the factual, the visible, the tangible. Only a minor percentage - less than 4.5% - focus on intercultural awareness or understanding. Moreover, from a closer look to the typology of activities, it is evident that the major focus still is the practice of traditional language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing . The traditional nature of these activities is camouflaged by titles such as Focus on Language, Self-Assessment, Improve Your English Pronunciation, Focus on Vocabulary, and Let’s Work Together, among others (MEN, 2013a, 2013b, 2013c).

The contribution of this work is to help the more systematic and consistent treatment of articles among non-native speakers of Spanish. This investigation contemplated the analysis of 67 free Spanish-language essays in two language levels, from which a taxonomy of errors was created. Subsequently, a module for teaching the articles to each level group was carried out to see the effect that the instruction had on the handling of these elements, an effect that was measured in relation to a pretest and a posttest. The results show that after the teaching module increases the overuse and the wrong selection, over the concordance errors that appeared before the teaching module. The explanation for this may be the use of hyper generalization strategies and a greater feeling of trust
